The first time around, Star Wars was something to behold. \u00a0It was the\u00a0beginning of making geekdom cool. Entertaining characters and a good storyline, although basically good over evil. \u00a0And there was genuine excitement for the instalments. \u00a0Sometimes years apart. \u00a0Then Star Wars creator George Lucas sold the rights and for this Star Wars fan, the story lost its salt. \u00a0And from the box office takings for the latest Star Wars episode, Solo, it seems that I am not alone.<\/p>\n

Disney spent a lot of money on their latest blockbuster Solo. They expected it to gross $101 million over the bank holiday. Solo is the back story of Han Solo the cheeky chappy rogue played by Harrison Ford. So, to my mind, it was a big risk finding somebody to step into those shoes. In this Star Wars tale, we learn how Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from the smooth Lando Calrissian and how he met his co-pilot Chewbacca the Wookiee. It should all be exciting stuff for fans like me. Two hours of Star Wars bliss. But it isn’t.<\/p>\n

Star Wars Battery Hen Movies<\/span><\/h2>\n

There have been so many Star Wars movies in fairly quick succession. They are turned out like eggs from a battery hen. The movies are loud and explosive but I think they have lost Star Wars Magic. The story lines are not compelling. The Last Jedi left a lot to be desired. Unless you are a man who likes women with more than two boobs. But I don’t think audiences are punishing the franchise for that pile of poop.<\/p>\n

Solo was the highest grossing film over the bank holiday weekend, $83.3 million, but it did not meet expectations. Nor did the movie. Perhaps, that is why Disney released the film this weekend and not at Christmas when the competition may be higher.<\/p>\n

There are commentators who put it down to Star Wars fatigue. Clearly, I am not one of them. I have found the acting less than convincing in recent movies. And that is true of Emilia Clarke who plays Qi\u2019ra, Solo\u2019s former girlfriend.<\/p>\n

The stories have been stale. It’s Sci-Fi it should be new and explorative. Instead, characters are re-hashed in poorly disguised form. The cheeky robot, the ‘I know better female’ and worse men who are either toxic or weak. And they are always on a hot dusty planet and in a sexually depraved\u00a0space.<\/p>\n

So it’s not that fans are fatigued, or the wrong time of year, \u00a0it’s simply Star Wars are not good films anymore. Jeesh, some people\u00a0sure know how to destroy a good thing!<\/p>\n
