The Missing Chapter Collective: Showcase<\/strong>

The Missing Chapter initiates new research around public and private collections to identify, contextualise and showcase a dedicated portfolio of photography dating back to the mid 1800s. Their research implicitly traces 19th century photographic developments in relation to socio-cultural and visual accounts of the black presence in Great Britain.<\/p>\n

The Missing Chapter Collective consists of young, aspiring cultural producers, historians and artists. They create a series of multimedia projects and events in response to the 19th century photographs unearthed as part our The Missing Chapter archive research project. Using photography, film, illustration and debate the Collective interpret issues around cultural memory, representation and the archive, locating the past in their present.<\/p>\n

Working collaboratively, four leading heritage organisations have created a platform to examine the future opportunities and challenges in bringing to life and revealing the hidden histories in Black archives. The conference will examine the central question, \u2018what are archives for?\u2019 At 2:30 Charlie Phillips, renowned photographer will be making a presentation.<\/p>\n

Orangised by the Antislavery Usable Past the \u2018Archives into the Future\u2019 seminar series provides a forum for creative debate about the issues facing archives today, and seeks to explore innovative approaches towards archives in the future.<\/p>\n

Antislavery Usable Past’ aim is to demonstrate that applied knowledge of the antislavery past offers a way to \u2018care for the future\u2019. To that end, this workshop will offer a forum for an exchange of ideas between archivists, curators, academics, NGOs, charities and human rights organisations on the value of archives in the Third Sector and how heritage resources can be utilised in modern day campaigning.<\/p>\n

The workshop will consist of a series of short talks and discussion sessions.<\/p>\n

The Festival will cover\u00a0a variety of genres including fiction, poetry, politics and sci-fi\/fantasy.<\/p>\n
