The sex given at birth.]women because it is a missed opportunity to highlight otherwise overlooked issues. \u00a0For example, health and medicine, an area where sex discrimination is still impacting.\u00a0 Medical care for women is lagging behind that of men. Conversations on women\u2019s health are centred around, breast cancer and reproduction.\u00a0 Yet heart disease is the biggest killer of women, who are also more likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer.\u00a0 Women are also 70% more likely to suffer with depression than men.\u00a0 These illnesses are directly related to differences in the physiology of the sexes.\u00a0 This is the type of information that should be making headlines for women. \u00a0Women\u2019s health is a high priority equal rights issue.\u00a0 However, the momentum on women\u2019s news seems to be dominated by transwomen.\u00a0 There are cisgender women issues that need to be in the spotlight in order to save lives.<\/p>\n<p>Until recently, little attention has been paid to the physiology of men and women.\u00a0 The difference between the sexes has pretty much been restricted to sexual plumbing and breasts.\u00a0 Current research is scratching the surface, but we now know that every single cell in our body contains the chromosomes that determine whether we are man or woman.\u00a0 The sexes are different all the way down to molecular levels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1238\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/women-trans-women-the-science-health\/ijsheart01\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg?fit=450%2C325&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"450,325\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"ijsheart01\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg?fit=450%2C325&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1238 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg?resize=300%2C217\" alt=\"thefemaleheart\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg?resize=300%2C217&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijsheart01.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Contrary to the popular perception, it is women who are dying of heart disease at four times the rate of men. \u00a0Alarmingly, women aged 20 to 40 years of age are at great risk. \u00a0In the USA heart disease kills one in three women.\u00a0 The numbers of deaths are increasing for women and declining for men.\u00a0 Globally, approximately 8.6 million women die of heart disease compared to 500,000 succumbing to breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s hearts are different to men\u2019s.\u00a0 They are smaller in size and beat faster at rest and exercise.\u00a0 When men have a heart attack it is usually an explosion of the coronary artery from blockage. \u00a0Women\u2019s heart attacks are from an erosion of the coronary artery.\u00a0 So whereas an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/heart-disease\/angiogram\" target=\"_blank\">angiogram<\/a> will show the blockage in the male pattern of heart disease, it does not for a women whose type of heart disease is typically erosion.\u00a0 This means that the classic heart attack symptoms of \u2018the elephant on the chest\u2019 does not necessarily apply to women.\u00a0 40% of women having heart attacks have no chest pain or only some light pressure or indigestion.\u00a0 Women\u2019s pattern of heart disease tends to have a general feeling of being unwell or tiredness.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote an <a href=\"http:\/\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/mother-or-father-but-not-both\/\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> which considered the differences between a man and woman\u2019s brain structure and how it affected rearing children.\u00a0 The structural difference also affects moods.\u00a0 Across the globe, depression is the single biggest debilitation for women.\u00a0 Women are 70% more likely to suffer depression than men yet they are 50% more likely to be misdiagnosed for depression; although it is known that women experience more sleep deprivation, anxiety, fatigue and pain than men.\u00a0 These depressive symptoms are generally overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s association with cancer, is commonly breast cancer but findings in the USA show that lung cancer kills more women.\u00a0 When men and women who are non-smokers are compared, women are three times more likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer.\u00a0 However, young women\u2019s survival rates are higher than men\u2019s.\u00a0 Early findings suggest that this might be related to oestrogen but there is lack of investment in women\u2019s medical research.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1241\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/women-trans-women-the-science-health\/ijs-002gendersymbols\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png?fit=500%2C343&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"500,343\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"ijs-002gendersymbols\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png?fit=500%2C343&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1241 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png?resize=300%2C206\" alt=\"female,male,transgender Symbols\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png?resize=300%2C206&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ijs-002gendersymbols.png?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The general assumption that men and women are alike in every way, apart from their sex organs is indisputably wrong.\u00a0 Cisgender women have their own anatomy and physiology.\u00a0 It goes beyond society\u2019s prescribed gender roles and the mismatching of the physical body one is born into.\u00a0 These facts are sadly lost in the transgender debate.\u00a0 Yet, as illustrated there are very important fundamental differences between men and women. \u00a0It is because these inequalities exist we cannot say that transgender women are the same as cisgender women.<\/p>\n<p>By design of an unequal society, the framework for medical research for over a hundred years has been based on men only.\u00a0 The results, have just been applied to women as demonstrated in treatment of heart disease.\u00a0 It is no wonder that for men, who have the benefit of 50 years research, the rate is rapidly falling.\u00a0 Even cells used in both human and animal experiments today are predominately from males.\u00a0 Our sex makes a difference and there needs to be far greater investment in research on the sexes.\u00a0 We need to call for improved knowledge on the health of women and their care.\u00a0 Clearly, it works as is evident from the fall in breast cancer rates and recovery.\u00a0 We are just not doing enough for the other 50% of the population, women.\u00a0 This can be changed with financial investment from Government and increased awareness amongst women.<\/p>\n<div class=\"likebtn_container\" style=\"\"><!-- LikeBtn.com BEGIN --><span class=\"likebtn-wrapper\"  data-identifier=\"post_1230\"  data-site_id=\"632a645f943ec93423ce055c\"  data-style=\"\"  data-unlike_allowed=\"\"  data-show_copyright=\"\"  data-item_url=\"https:\/\/imjussayin.com\/blog\/women-trans-women-the-science-health\/\"  data-item_title=\"The Science &amp;
