The terrorist attacks in Brussels frightened people across Europe. In reality, one is more likely to be killed by a bee sting in the UK than be murdered by a terror attack. When people are scared, positive leadership is needed, especially in times of terrorism or war. Unfortunately, David Cameron, the Prime Minister, has run with the rhetoric that troubles in the UK are to be laid at the feet of migrants. He has even suggested that Muslim women are a contributory factor in the growth of ISIS.
Fear and blame without positive leadership can lead to people behaving in an offensive manner, such as @MatthewDoyle31 behaved, toward the innocent. He tweeted, it would appear with great pride “I confronted a Muslim women (sic) yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels. She said “Nothing to do with me”. A mealy mouthed reply.” The tweet, which has since been deleted, was ridiculed on the internet. The shame is that he felt empowered to make the approach in the first place.
